NSS One on One Preview: Top Five Team’s of All-Time!
October 13, 2009 by Nick Gelso

For those of you who love a gripping basketball debate, you have found your home. NSS: One on One has created quite a stirr here at North Station Sports and the debates are now pouring over onto sites such as Bleacher Report. Last week’s battle over Allen Iverson’s Legacy brought on TONS of comments on B/R and created quite an emotional buzz. This week’s edition should be no different…
This week’s NSS: One on One asks the familiar question: Which Team is the Best of All-Time?
Matt and I will rate our favorite team’s into a “fave 5″ list – in order according to team attributes and accomplishments. Our lists should produce several different versions (or order of the same list) from you.
Who tops the list?
The 1996 Bulls?
Who makes the list?
The 2009 Lakers?
Who’s left off the list?
The 1983 76ers?
The questions will be answered on Thursday morning but we ask you, our loyal readers, to join in and give us your “Fav 5″ list. You can wait until we post this edition of NSS One on One on Thursday OR you can send us your “fav 5″ list before Thursday and we will feature it in the post when it appears on the site.
On Thursday, Matt Golden and I will do our normal contradictory ping pong battle of basketball back and forth.
Tune in on Thursday and make your voice heard, get involved in the NSS battle of One on One.

I say 100% the 96′ Bulls! No one comes near that team…

Nick,
Nice piece, but can’t say I completely agree with many of your choices. The 80s were a great period of basketball, but not sure three of the top five are from that decade. Picking just five teams is certainly tough, but the 1967 76ers, any of the Russell Celtics teams and the 1970 and 1973 Knicks certainly belong in the discussion.

Dean, thanks for reading and commenting.
Choosing only 5 teams was very tough for matt and I.
I can’t speak for Matt but, as for myself, any team prior to 1970 is almost unfair to place. It’s almost as if you have to judge this by eras (ie: pre 1970; post 1970).
In 1965, the midst of the Russ/Celtics dynasty, there were only 11 teams in the league. In 1967, Wilt’s year, there were 13 (i think) teams in the league. Can you imagine winning the championship this year and during the draft recieving the THIRTEENTH pick?!?!
I guess what I’m trying to say is, it was much easier to construct talented, dynastic squads then.
After the mid 70’s, with the expansion esplosion in the NBA, it became very tough to repeat as champions (as seen during the era of 1969 thru 1988, when no one repeated) and very tough to build up well rounded – talent at every position.
Not to take anything away from Russ… you know he is one of my idols but I just don’t think it’s fair to place him with the great teams on my list.
