The Celtics are a superior basketball team when you look at them against the Sixers. Even though tonights game was in Philly, the result was no huge surprise. Both teams started slow, shot poorly, committed turnovers andwere sloppy overall, then, once the 3rd quarter rolled around, the game was blown open and that was pretty much the end of it’s entertainment. Boston proved that strong defense, decent offensive execution and control over pace is enough to beat up the Sixers.

I expected a bit more out of the Sixers really. They are in the early stages of learning Eddie Jordan’s princeton offense, but still look lost in halfcourt offense. If you’re more familiar with the Atlanta Hawks, the Sixers are even worse. It’s not fun to watch. The Celtics didn’t blow the game open earlier because they weren’t making shots they should have. Ray Allen would miss open three’s and close shots clanked out. At one point in the 2nd quarter, the Celtics had a 10 point lead, but it should have been 15.

Overall, everything Boston did was strong enough to whip the Sixers. That’s not saying much. Strong enough to whip the Bulls in Boston, that’s better. Again, as people have been mentioned in their early evaluations of the Celtics,
Rasheed just looks so comfortable. As usual, he was almost lights out from behind the arc (6-8 to be exact) and occasionally provided post offense and consistent defense where it was needed. He fits in seamlessly and the Celtics are on the right track, if a 31 point win wasn’t proof enough.
