Your Tommy-Quote of the Day…

“If the coaches don’t vote Antoine Walker into the AllStar Game, I’m going to shoot all the coaches … “

I am going to solicit from the people watching at home, some kind of medication that will relieve me of my frustrations with these officials … Send me a dowsing stick, anything! I need ANY kind of remedy to relieve my frustration with these [referees]!

Headlines from around the league…

Vulture Reading Room: “I’m reluctantly raising an issue that could swallow this discussion whole”

Shoals from The Baseline and FreeDarko has his second essay up regarding Simmons new book. As a little taste:

That’s why I’m having trouble handicapping Simmons on grounds of his blogginess and populism. Dude can write. When you can write, and don’t, that disappoints me. That doesn’t mean that his columns are no longer enjoyable, or that this book wasn’t intensely readable, but I feel dangerously close to making a “writing! we’re talking about writing!” joke.

The Baseline: Popovich bares his true sarcastic soul

Because we all like it when someone in a position of NBA authority points out what all of us were thinking when the Gasol deal went down.

Youtube:

In spite of my recent LeBron criticism, this was pretty damn funny. Not only did he crush the Thunder in the 4th, he stole their fans eats.

TrueHoop: Now starring as Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson

I’ve always thought of Iverson as more of an anti-Jordan (and, by extension, an anti-Kobe), in that he relies on improvisation and raw talent while not having the ideal basketball body, whereas Jordan thrived on constantly adding new layers to his game and working harder than anyone else. Abbott draws some great parallels regarding their similar attempts to comeback late in their respective careers.

Houston Chronicle: Rockets’ Ariza suspended one game by NBA

This was a blatant attempt at a cheapshot by a frustrated Ariza on DeMar DeRozan, and it deserved at least a game, if not more. Trevor was lucky he whiffed, or he could be out a hell of a lot longer. Disappointing display by a good young talent.

FanHouse: Will Hill and Billups receive Hall passes?

Interesting look at whether these two will make it into the hall, including Hill’s reflections on how much his history of being sidelined may cost him. While true, I think his play last year and this is serving as a nice reminder of just how good he was before he was derailed by injuries. Those Phoenix trainers/medical guys are to be commended.

MileHighFan: Spurs extend streak over Clippers to 13

Nice source of Nuggets writing and NBA news, to which I’ll be linking more frequently.
