Kendrick Perkins Receives Big Praise from the Chief
December 3, 2009 by Nick Gelso

No one ever said that being a center on the Boston Celtics was an easy task. When following in the sneakers of Bill Russell, Dave Cowens and Robert Parish, you don’t easily come up in all-time Celtics great’s conversations. Kendrick Perkins, drawing similarities to Robert Parish frequently on NSS, is starting to creep into that category. Perk has a tough task, trying to make his offensive mark on a team full of guns. Echoing the toughness Parish displayed during his 20 season career, Perk is making astounding offensive strides this season.
As I have said before, gone are the days when I would wince at the entry pass into Perk in the post. He may not be able to dump in three’s like Rasheed (would like to) and Doc is never going to the center for a game winning 18 footer that KG can provide. We can, however, count on Kendrick as the Celtics most reliable low-post player– a statement I never thought I would hear myself make.
The Boston Herald published a fitting article today about Robert Parish, who was in attendance for the Bobcats game, praising our budding star.
From the Boston Herald:
“No question,” Parish said of Perkins’ growth. “I’m very pleased to see how much work he’s put into the offensive end. The big difference is that his teammates are showing more confidence in him. Now he’s more decisive about what he’s gonna do. Now he’s making moves with a real purpose.”
“He’s definitely a throwback,” Parish said. “Back then, there would have been a place for him, because he’s the kind of player who does things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. But you can tell he wants the ball now. He has a lot more confidence from his teammates.”
“Clifford gets some credit,” Parish said. “But in this case, the majority of the credit has to go to the player.”
Clifford mentored Parish four decades earlier and now Perkins has the honor of being schooled by both legends. Perk is a pretty lucky guy and it’s definetely showing in his play this season!

Too bad Kendrick got handled tonight. Granted, it was against a HOF center, but still.
