Why is Kevin McHale Helping the Mavs?
September 30, 2009 by Nick Gelso
Kevin McHale spoke at the Dallas Maverick’s team dinner Monday night, showed up at the team’s practice yesterday and is expected to stick around the Mavs for the remainder of the week.
McHale told the Dallas Morning News,
“For the first day of practice, I was very impressed. They are a veteran team. It should be a very exciting year down here”.
McHale continued,
“They have the ability to play big, play small and (Drew) Gooden and (Shawn) Marion give them a whole new look.”
Dirk Nowitzki has this to say,
“I’m going to try and pick his brain while he’s here. To me, he is probably the greatest low post player the league has ever seen. He had every move in the book. It’s good to have him and hopefully he can bring us to the next level.”
Okay, I agree with Dirk. McHale is a wealth of knowledge and expertise, even for a veteran team like the Mavs. Then again, maybe McHale can teach Dirk and company how to finally win.
The real question is, however, why is McHale volunteering the help the Mavs anyway? Okay, we know Rick Carlisle and McHale were team mates in 1986 but does that warrant him being “guest coach” for the first week of training camp?
Well, then again, McHale did give us Kevin Garnett. I better not complain about him helping the Mavs.
Maybe you should help them out a bit more Kevin.
